Northwestern Exposure — 1998

You must make a quilted item from the basic fabrics given. You may add as many fabrics as you like, however, you may add only in the black to white range and from one other colour family. This means using a range of 1/4 or less of the colour wheel! You must include a star block somewhere on the item and items must be done in time for the October 1, 1998 guild meeting.

This challenge is intended to be fun and challenging.

Please stick to the rules as much as is quilterly possible!

A Galaxy of Stars — 2008

This year’s theme—A Galaxy of Stars—was suggested because the 2008 Raffle Quilt has stars as its theme. Guild members are invited to use their imaginations to make a project that reflects the theme for them. Your project can feature stars, mythology about stars, or whatever the theme suggests for you.

There are five fabrics in the packet—three fat quarters, and two fat eighths. The challenge is to use some of each fabric in the top/outside of your project where it shows.

The rules/guidelines are:

to meet the challenge and to try at least one new technique or idea that is a challenge for you.

No additional fabric has been ordered, so it will be up to each quilter to find more yardage of a particular fabric, if you need it.

Quilting Our Heritage — 2007

The theme was chosen because in 2007 Corvallis will celebrate its 150th Anniversary, and Philomath its 125th. You can make a quilt project that reflects the history of Corvallis or Philomath or some aspect of your own heritage.
The cost of the packet is $10. It contains three fabrics — ½ yard of one fabric, and two fat quarters.

The rules are simple:

(1) use some of each fabric in the top/outside of your project—where it
will show—and you can add as many fabrics as you wish.

(2) Try at least one new technique or idea that is a challenge for you.

Humor Runs Through It — 2006

The challenge:

To incorporate humor into your quilt project.

“Loosen up! Have fun! Add a touch of whimsy!” and… “Do something that makes you smile!”

Scrap It Your Way — 2010

It’s time to get your packets for next year’s challenge. Packets are only $5.00! This challenge is intended to help members reduce their stash. With the downturn in the economy, people are packing their lunches, watching their pennies and stretching their dollars, and the Challenge Quilt Committee wants to help. Each brown bag challenge packet contains two fat quarters of coordinated fabric to use as a starting point for your project – a quilt, a wall hanging, wearable art or maybe even a reusable quilted bag for shopping—REDUCE, REUSE, RECYLE.
Participants are allowed to trade fabrics with someone else if desired.

Guidelines:
1. The two fat quarter fabrics must be used on the front or outside of the project.
2. Participants must use their fabric stash for the top. However, the back of the quilt or wearable art can be newly purchased.
3. Challenge yourself to do something different/new—try a new block,
technique, or machine quilting design

Add Pizzazz Challenge Quilt — 2005

The Challenge

Add Pizzazz to your quilt project with fabrics that have stripes or yellow accents. There are two fabrics in this year’s packet. One fabric is a stripe, and the other includes yellow as one of several color options.

The rules are:

(1) Use some of each fabric in the top/outside of your project (i.e. where it will show!).

(2) Try at least one new technique/idea or do something that is a “challenge” for you. At the MRQG meeting bring a quilt and/or a good story/lie to tell.
